Doris May Cogdill Breeden

1925 - 2014

Doris May Cogdill Breeden, daughter of Elsie Neeley and Charley Cogdill, wife of Byron E. Breeden, passed away April 2, 2014 at the Washakie Medical Center in Worland.  She was 88 years old.  Doris and Byron had five children, Virginia (David) Largent of Billings, MT; Martha (Jim) Sutherland of Ten Sleep, Orville Joe (who died at birth), Thelma (Homer) Geis of Worland and Clinton (Jeanette) Breeden of the family ranch on the Upper Nowood in Ten Sleep.  Doris had five grandchildren that she spoiled and nurtured:  Jef Sutherland of Billings, MT; Bruce Largent of Billings, MT, Marcy Argeris of Worland, WY; Chuck Powell of Ten Sleep, WY and Ralph Powell of Thermopolis.  She is Grandma Doris or Great-Grandma to seven great-grandchildren.  In addition to her own family, she also considered the Smith boys her kids--Harry, John, George and Larry, along with their sister, Sylvia Haynes. Her good friend from Casper, Duane Dick, was also considered one of her kids.

Doris moved, with her family, to a ranch on the Upper Nowood Creek when she was 10 years old.  She and her brother Harold rode horseback to the Otter Creek School.  She attended high school in Ten Sleep and graduated in 1941.  She married her high school sweetheart, Byron Breeden, in January of 1942.  They ranched together until Byron's death in 2005.  Doris loved riding and often rode with friends around the southern Big Horn Mountains.

Doris always had room for others at their ranch house on the Nowood.  She took in many other children--her house was always full of kids and laughter.  She was bossy, loving, and made wonderful cinnamon rolls. She will be missed!

A memorial service will be held next summer on the mountains. Donations can be in Doris' name to the Ten Sleep Ambulance Service in care of Bryant Funeral Home, PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com. Bryant Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
