Franklin P. Brown and Family

     Franklin P. Brown one of the older settlers of the Big Horn Basin passed away Thursday, Feb. 26th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Waln in Ten Sleep following a short illness.  Mr. Brown and family came into the Big Trails country in 1898 and has had no small part in developing Washakie County.  Funeral services were held in Ten Sleep Saturday afternoon, Rev. C. A. Purdam of Sheridan officiating and the remains were laid at rest in the Ten Sleep Cemetery beside the grave of his wife who preceded him in death.  Franklin P. Brown was born in Kentucky, December 5th, 1849.  In the late seventies he came West into South Dakota where he engaged in the ranch and livestock business.  In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza A. Arledge and to this union were born ten children, nine of whom survive.  In 1908 he moved with his family to the Big Trails section where they again engaged in the ranching and live stock business.   In 1927 death robbed him of his wife who had been his partner in the years of pioneering.

     The deceased is survived by two sons, George W. Brown [Charlotte "Lottie" Smith] of Ten Sleep and Ray L. Brown [Bessie Elaine Bower]of Worland and seven daughters; Mrs. W. H. Williams [Julia Annis], Mrs. Clarence Waln [Florence Pearl], both of Ten Sleep, Mrs. Ed Davis [Amanda Cora] of Riverton, Mrs. Clyde Lybyer [Stella May]of Midwest, Mrs. John Doubleday [Laura Edna] of Cody, Mrs. C. L. Bishop [Alta Ferne] of Paul, Idaho and Mrs. Robert Riddle [Frances Ivron] as well as thirty- two grand children and three great grand children.  One daughter, Mrs. George Shepheard [ Hulda Rachel] passed away several years ago.
