Daugherty, Lester Roy

Researched and compiled by Faye Bell (SLC) 2012

Lester Roy Daugherty was born to McKinley Daugherty and his wife Anna (?) [1920 Census records are awry but show Earl Daugherty with McKinley as brother and with two wives—conclusion is that Anna is McKinley’s wife].  He was born in Wyoming in 1924 and was schooled in Ten Sleep schools.  He was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve and a Fireman 1st Class.   He was reported missing in action near Ft William McKinley, Manila, Philippines and later declared “killed in action” (26 Oct 1944) and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.  He was survived by his brother John Daugherty and his sister Florence Daugherty Spratt (wife of Thomas Spratt).  [Data come from the Collection of Veterans Interred Overseas.]

Memories:  Lester was dark haired, olive complexioned and dark eyed.  He was a friend of my brother Millard M Moses and the last time I saw him he was sitting on a top rail of a corral on the Moses farmland and talking to my brothers.   He was wearing Levis and a workman’s shirt.  The year was 1943/44.
