Raymond J Gossens was born in Gilly, Belgium on August 11, 1908 to John and Alice Gossens.  In 1919 he and his brother Arthur and parents arrived in New York on the ship LaSavoire from Le Havra. (Ancestry.com  A picture of the ship is also shown on this site.)  He and his family lived in Thermopolis, Hot Springs, WY when the 1920 census was taken. In 1930, the U.S. census reveals he is in Hyattville, a boarder at the Sam and Rowena Hyatt ranch.  He met June Doyle in Hyattville when she went there to teach school in 1932.  They were married 21 Apr 1933 in Billings, MT and lived on a ranch at Hyattville for 3 years.  Next they bought land on Lower Nowood where they lived for 50 years not far from Ten Sleep and moved to Ten Sleep in 1986.  Raymond drove the Lower Nowood schoolbus for a number of years.  He passed away 28 Dec 1992 (SS death record).  He was survived by his son Darrel R Gossens (b 1939) and his wife, June, and a number of grandchildren.

Memories:  Raymond J Gossens was an unassuming man with trustworthy traits.  He passed the hours away in Ten Sleep between the time the bus arrived in early a.m. until time to pick up the school children around 3:30 p.m. at Speck’s Place, at Mobile Service Station, etc.  Of medium build, short in stature and of light complexion.  Fb
