Archie Lewis Jacobs was born to Lewis and Stella Gaskill Jacobs in Nebraska July 1890.  As per the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, they were living in spring Creek, Big Horn County, WYO., with  brothers Earl and William and sisters Edna and Mable.   By 1910 the Jacobs were still in Spring Creek and had added another brother Jesse and a sister Floella to the five listed.  By now Archie, the eldest of the Jacobs children, had three brothers and three sisters.  His father was a freighter, a rancher, and a responsible and upstanding man in the area.  Archie married Grace L Nicholson ca 1912.  The couple had two children Bessie L (7)  and Julia Eliza (age 2) in 1920 and they were living in Ten Sleep.  Archie and Grace lost their second little daughter when in 1924 (a child of 6) she died of tonsillitis (the newspaper article indicates they were at Big Trails in 1924[?]).  In  1930 they were  in Ten Sleep with children Bessie, Fern and Roland.  In 1940 U.S. Census Archie is driving truck (freight between T.S. and Worland) and Roland R. and Zeola [Zela] Marie were the only children still at home.  Archie spent a decade  in and around Ten Sleep working for the town of Ten Sleep and, in general, doing miscellaneous carpentry and farm work.  He passed away in 1969 leaving as survivors his wife, Grace, and all the children they had together with the exception of Julia Eliza as mentioned above.  Services were held in the Sabbath-Day Adventist Church in Ten Sleep.

Memories:  Archie Jacobs was the kindest man in Ten Sleep.  His visage was always smiling and his voice lively and friendly.  He was medium height, never overweight, curling black hair and olive complexion.  I think that he was beloved by all who knew him.  Fb
