Walter Dale Stevens
1934 - 2018
Walter Dale Stevens was born on June 8, 1934 in Ten Sleep to Walter Herman Stevens and Pearl Simpson Riddle Stevens, the youngest of 5 children: Mabry Riddle, Melvin Riddle, Nina Fey Riddle, and Joyce Stevens. Following the death of Walter Herman Stevens, the family moved to Seattle, Washington and then to San Diego, California where Walter Dale grew up.
He served in the air force from 1955 thru 1958; most of his service was at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. Upon leaving the air force he returned to San Diego, where he met and married Carol Allen on September 21 1962; their marriage lasted 55 years until his death from chronic respiratory failure following a long illness.
He was a jack-of-all-trades, able to fix anything and worked as a machinist, mechanic, welder, auto parts salesman, glazier and truck driver. He loved to travel, and visited transportation museums in many different countries. He had a wonderful memory, especially for trivia, and a wry sense of humor, evoking laughter with his stories and witticisms.
He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Renetta, son Colin, daughter-in-law Rana and grandson Ryan as well as aunts, cousins, niece Cheryl and nephew Robert, great nieces and nephew, a great, great niece and his little dog Ella.
A celebration of life was held on July 29, 2018 at the Water Conservation Garden in Rancho San Diego, California. Some fifty relatives and friends gathered to share stories of his life and toast his memory.
He will be missed – may he rest in peace.
