     TEN SLEEP --- Longtime Ten Sleep resident Ray D. Rice, 52, died on Wednesday, June 5 at the Washakie Memorial Hospital in Worland after a heart attack.
     He was born on July 22, 1943 in Worland, a son of Vernon and Doris (Matthews) Rice.
     He was raised in Ten Sleep, and attended elementary and high school there graduating in 1961.  He then attended Utah State University in Logan, where he graduated in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry.  He returned to the family ranch in the Brokenback area.
     He married Valerie Eckardt in Ten Sleep in December 1965.  They were latter divorced.
     He married Joyce N. Barone at Meadowlark Lake Lodge in 1990.
     Mr. Rice was active in ranching related activities around the state, serving with the Soil Conservation District board, Southside Paintrock Cattle Association, Big Horn Forest Permittees Association, Washakie County Predator Control Board, and the Wyoming Stockgrowers Association.  He was a member of the Worland Elks Lodge, the Big Horn Sno-Goers, and was a stockholder in the Ten Sleep Rodeo Association.  He was a member of the Ten Sleep Lions Club and the Ten Sleep Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
     His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gun collecting, snowmobiling, playing poker with friends, listening to Paul Harvey's newscasts, being a private pilot, and especially playing City League basketball.
     Survivors include his wife, his mother, and his son Casey, all of Ten Sleep; a stepson, Anthony Barone of Chicago; two daughters, Melissa Rice and Debra Eaves, both of Worland and Josie Barone of Ten Sleep; a brother, Gary of Ten Sleep; two nephews, Dan Rice of Ten Sleep and Mike Liechty of Logan; a niece, Leslie Altner of Worland; a sister, Joan Liechty of Logan; and three grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his father; by an aunt, Vi Wortham; and by an uncle, Ted Rice.
     Visitations are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Ten Sleep LDS Church.
     The service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ten Sleep LDS Church, with Bishop Matt Davidson officiating, and Dale Lyman as guest speaker.  Burial will be at the Ten Sleep Cemetery.
