     WORLAND --- Thelma V. Waln, 84, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the Hot Springs Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis.
     Thelma was born Dec. 6, 1918 in Bonanza, the daughter of Clarence Alvin and Florence Pearl (Brown) Waln.
     Thelma was raised in Ten Sleep and Big Trails.  She graduated from Ten Sleep High School, and then attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb.  She studied pre-nursing.  Thelma then  moved to Glendale, Calif. to attend nursing school at the Glendale Sanitarium and Hospital, where she graduated in 10445.
     Thelma started her nursing career working in Worland, Powell, and Casper before serving as a Seventh Day Adventist missionary nurse in Montemorelos, Mexico from 1956-1958.  She then worked at the hospital in Menard, Texas from 1958-1960; at  Fort Collins, Colo. from 1960-1962; and then at Loma Linda Hospital in Loma Linda, Calif. from 1962-1964.  She went into public health nursing after attending Cal. State College in L.A., Calif. from 1964-1966 for certification.  From 1966-1987 Thelma worked for the Napa County Public Health Department in Napa, Calif.
     Thelma never married, and she moved back to Worland in 1987 to be near her family.  She lived in the Apple Apartments until 200 when she moved to the  Pioneer Home in Thermopolis.
     Thelma was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Thermopolis.  She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, ceramics, and painting pictures in oil paints.
     Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and  one brother, Marvin Waln, who was killed during World War II.
     She is survived by her brother, Theron Waln of Powell; her sister Pauline (Archie) Harvard of Worland; one niece, four nephews, and many cousins in the area.
     Cremation will take place, and a graveside memorial service will be held on Sept. 22, 2 p.m. at the Ten Sleep Cemetery.  Reverend Gordon Henderson  of Casper will officiate.
