     TEN SLEEP -- Elden M. Wells, 76, of Ten Sleep, died Sunday, February 7, 1999 at Washakie Memorial Hospital.
     He was born on April 12, 1922 near Nimrod, Mont., the son of Don Elden and Hazel Victoria (Bower) Wells.  He married Evelyn Maxine Williams on Dec. 22, 1945 at Riverside, Calif.
     He was born in a home near Nimrod, Mont., and the family moved to Ten Sleep when he was a small boy, and he attended school there.  
     He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942, and had fought battles at Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Guam during World War II.  After his discharge in 1945 he lived in California until 1946 when the couple moved to Worland.  He then worked for Cook's Sales and Service, and in Greybull as a mechanic.
     In 1949 the family moved to Ten Sleep, where he started his own business, Eastside Service and Repair, doing auto repairs, welding, and operating a wrecker service for many years.  He also outfitted and guided hunters in the fall.
     He had served on the Ten Sleep Fire Department for many years, serving as fire chief for several of those years.  He and his family also operated the Ten Sleep Ambulance.  He was a member of the Ski Patrol, and the Ten Sleep VFW Post #9405.  His hobbies included hunting and fishing, and traveling south during the winter months.
     He is survived by his wife Maxine Wells of Ten Sleep; three sons, James D. Wells of Worland, Ronald Wells of Grand Junction, Colo., and Marvin Wells of Cody; one sister, Marcella Dellos of Worland; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the Viele Mortuary Chapel in Worland with Rev. Stephen Ferris of the First Baptist Church of Ten Sleep officiating.  His ashes will be buried in the Ten Sleep Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
